The mammalian sperm consists of a head, a midpiece and a tail. The head contains the nucleus with densely coiled chromatin fibers, surrounded by an acrosome, which contains enzymes used for penetrating the female egg. The midpiece has a central filamentous core with many mitochondria spiraled around it, which is used for ATP production, so that, sperm can travel through the female cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes. The tail executes the lashing movements, that propel the spermatocyte. Hence, option D is correct.
