Forebrain (Thalamus).

The brain is a component of the central nervous system. It sends, receives, processes and directs sensory information. There are three main divisions of the brain- Forebrain, Midbrain and Hindbrain.

The forebrain consists of two parts- telencephalon and diencephalon. The telencephalon consists of the cerebral cortex and the corpus callosum while the diencephalon is made up of thalamus and hypothalamus.

The thalamus acts as a sort of telephone line that allows information to go through the cerebral cortex. It serves as a relay station for impulses travelling to and fro from the spinal cord, brain stem, cerebellum and cerebrum.
