Osteoporosis

Osteoporisis affects the bones of the body.

This is a medical condition where bone loses its density due to increased bone resorption ( the breakdown of bone tissue) and/or decreased rate of bone formation, leading to bone fragility.

Osteoporosis thus leads to increased risk of bone fractures due to the increased fragility of the bones of the body.

Common osteoporotic bone fractures :

-Fractures on the hip

-Fractures of the wrist

- Fractures of the Spine.

Osteoporosis can cause fractures on other bones besides the ones mentioned above as well.

Osteoporosis can also cause:

- Loss of height

- Hunch posture when it affects the bones of the vertebral column.
