Chapter The Last Lesson by Alphonse Daudet

I liked the most the part when Franz reaches school late and found everything to be quite as Sunday morning. As usual there is noise of children reciting and drag of benches etc. but on that day everything was as silent as Sunday morning. When he reached the classroom he found Mr. M Hamel was wearing Pretty clothes which he used to wear on occasions all the class was silent and there was only the sound of scratching of pencils on paper. On regular days the last benches used to be vacant but today villagers were sitting there holding primary books. M Hamel said Franz to come and sit at his place quitely.

I liked this part most because that day was the last day of French lesson there so all the villagers came to pay tribute to 40 Years of sincere service of M Hamel. The villagers also wanted to express their solidarity with France.
