In the 1929 general political election, the Labor Party turned into the biggest in the House of Commons just because, with 287 seats and 37.1% of the popular vote. MacDonald proceeded to select Britain's first woman Cabinet Minister Margaret Bondfield, who was delegated Minister of Labor.

SIMON COMMISSION :-

->The New Tory Government in Britain constituted a statutory commission under Sir John Simon. The Commission was to look into functioning of constitutional system in India and suggest changes. The Commission did not have a single Indian member. When the commission arrived in India, it was greeted by slogans “Simon, Go Back”.

All parties, including Congress and Muslim League, participated in the demonstrations. (Lala Lajpat Rai was arrested and soon he died. Govind Ballabh Pant was lathicharged, remained crippled for life).
