On 14 August 1980 strike was observed by the workers of Lenin Shipyard in Poland due to the popularity of this moment an agreement took place between the workers led by the Lech walesa and the government.
After this famous incident and independent trade union solidarity was established in Poland.
Martial Law imposed by the General Jaruzelski in December 1981 and several members of solidarity were arrested.
Lech Walesa was elected as a president of Poland in 1990.

On September 5, 1980, Józef Pińkowski was named new Prime Minister, and held the post until February 11, 1981. Edward Gierek, who had been First Secretary of Polish Communist Party since December 20, 1970, was dismissed on September 6, and was replaced by Stanislaw Kania.
