Which persons have earned more respect from the students and why?

Answer:
Tough one. My guess would be that what the teacher saw that prompted their “demand” for respect was a lack of it in the classroom. This does not mean that the disrespect was intended.
picture this scenario: two students are having a quiet conversation with each other. They do not mean disrespect to the teacher but have decided that their conversation is not a big deal.
even if that conversation was not meant for anyone but those two, it could still be witnessed by another student nearby, who decides it is more intriguing than whatever the teacher is talking about.
That innocuous conversation has now become a distraction.
Now imagine that you are the teacher trying to answer a question, or engage the class in a discussion, and there are students who are creating competing sources for attention. Can you see how this could be seen as disrespectful?
Respect comes from acknowledging that there is a person in the room that is trying to fulfill and better the class. I can understand it can seem like not a big deal to those who get it and have now moved to a side conversation, but what about those who could get it but are being distracted?
Another thing to consider is that of all the people in the room, the teacher is the paid professional who has a level of experience and knowledge in the subject. I’m not saying others do not know, or cannot know, but it seems odd to rule out or ignore this paid professional.
