The idea of laws governing planetary motion was first expressed by Greek philosopher Anaxagoras 2000 years ago.


He said that if moon didn't move it would fall to earth like a stone hurled from a sling.

However Anaxagoras' brilliant conjecture had no practical effect on development of science as it was misunderstood and ignored by many ancient thinkers.
