Early humans were known to be completely depended on agriculture for food and economy. In order to make good agriculture they water, more then enough water. So they chose coastal plains and alluvial plain for doing agriculture.
Mississippi Alluvial plains, Great plains of India, North China plains,Indo-Gangetic Plain and even more were to be considered as the bedrock for the growth of human civilization.
Also the region between the Tigris and Euphrates river are known as the cradle of Civilization in which complex urban areas grew in a rapid rate.
