Taken from Robert Browning’s poem.

The Patriot, the like, Had I said, “Good folk, mere noise repels- uses the poetic devices of irony and metaphor.  

This stanza shows how a patriot is revered by their countrymen who even try to achieve the impossible for their hero.

The irony of this stanza is reflected in the third where it is seen that this reverence fades quickly and people forget that the hero actually did the impossible where the countrymen just gave empty promises.
