Which point among (2, 3), (–3, –4), (3, 4) and (1, –7) is nearest to the origin?

Use the distance formula.  \sqrt{(x2 - x1)^{2} + (y2 - y1)^{2}}
The distances are the following..
(2, 3) = sqrt 13
(-3, -4) = sqrt 25 or 5
(3, 4) = sqrt 25 or 5
(1, -7) = sqrt 50

Therefore (2, 3) is the nearest.
