Answer:

)Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama becomes the first European to reach India via the Atlantic Ocean when he arrives at Calicut on the Malabar Coast. This marked to be a new beginning for trade and transport between India and Europe..

)They kept their trade centres in coastal ateas because they want to mainly export the goods to their country.

)The policy of divide and rule was mostly applied on rebel people. Hindu communities were pitted against Muslim community. Muslim community was pitted against Sikh community. Princely states were affected if the King did not have a son to inherit the throne. The Kings, Chiefs and Nawabs became aware of the military and financial strength of British administration. Slowly most of them fell in line with British rule. Those opposed were crushed by British administration. The divide and rule policy affected the common people and created communal tensions. The Prices and Chiefs had good relation irrespective of religion.

)The east India company became an imperial power to protect its trading interest from other European trader.
