In the context of plant diversity India ranks fourth in Asia and tenth in the world. There are around 45000 plant species and 91000 animal species in India. The major ecosystems covers the forests areas, wetlands, marine, deserts, grasslands and coastal areas.
India holds around 7% of mangroves which is said to be the best in the world. Desert ecosystems also play a major role in plant diversity in states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat.
