Although there have been lots of changes in terms of agriculture nationwide but people of uttrakhand still uses traditional equipments which were used by their forefathers for agriculture
Scarcity of water: One major problem in agriculture in hilly areas is the scarcity of water. Due to this water shortage, major crops get spoiled.
Hilly areas agriculture land is scattered that means it becomes very difficult to the peasant/farmer to execute and manage any agriculture or any other process over it.
Although Govt. is providing it’s best by launching new agriculture machines and tools for the welfare of villagers, needy people are not able to utilize these schemes due to their poor financial conditions.
Threat from wildlife :- Wild animals add to Uttarakhand hill farmers’ woes look in to the story, and you will know the how wild life has posed threat to farming. Encroachment to forest and destruction of natural habitat are the reason behind it.
Farmers in the hilly areas face the following problem:-
1. Mechanisation- Hilly area common farmers still uses traditional equipments
2. Small Land holding/size- Land is scattered due to topography
3. Villages are scattered- The most villages are scattered due to this farmers are unable to contact others farmers and Government Agri development officials in regular basis
4. Knowledge transfer/Sharing- Knowledge transfer & sharing is not easy due to topography of the land
5. Irrigation facility- During raining season water are following but in other season scarcity of water
6. Market Reach- Market is far away from field
7. Transportation & connectivity- Transportation is one the major problem
8. Productivity- Due to topography & other factors affect productivity as well as return on investment.
