I am just answering based on my judgement, I know adenosine triphosphate is the energy on which active transport is based but also think nothing can be done without mechanical energy for the performance of any active transport I am not a science student but I answer based on my judgments
u answered that glaciers require specific climatic conditions but the main reason why it does not melt is because of the transparent nature of water and translucent nature of ice which let's the sunlight in summer to absorb into the whole of the glacier .by the time it gets heated the season changes occur preventing it from melting
I have read this point from a book so I have sent it here just for info
if the glaciers were opaque it would have melted since the sunlight cannot pass into the glacier and melting the glacier layer by layer

active transport requires energy because osmosis and diffusion do not require any energy.
