Tinning process is the process which is carried out for avoiding the formation of “greenish layer on brass vessels” because of corrosion.

Explanation:

  • The tin metal is coated with surface of the metal is called “Tinning”. This method is done by “hot dipping method”.

The following steps are involved the Tinning process:

  • In the first step, the metal base is washed with organic solvent to remove dirt, grease and oil.
  • To remove the rust or any other depositions on the metal, the metal is passed through a sulphuric acid followed by washed with water then dried.
  • After that metal is passing through a mixture of “ammonium chloride and zinc chloride” and then dipped into the molten Tin.
  • Finally metal is dipped in the “palm oil” to prevent the oxidation of Tin.
