Manufacturing of Nitric Acid:-

____________________________________

Ostwald Process

Method of preparation :-

_______________________

  • Step 1 :-A mixture of dry air and dry Ammonia in a ratio of 10 : 1 by volume is taken .
  • Step 2:- then it is first compress and then p@ss into the catalytic chamber .
  • Step 3:- Then catalytic chamber contains platinum gauze as the catalyst at about 800 °Celsius is taken.
  • Step 4:-The results in the oxidation of ammonia into nitrogen monoxide .
  • Step 5:- After seeing the observation we find that the reaction is exothermic and the heat evolved maintain the temperature of the catalyst chamber .
  • Step 6:- The hot gases are then passed through a heat exchanger .
  • Step 8:- Then they are mixed with air and p@ss into the another chamber call oxidising chamber .
  • Step 9:- In this chamber Nitrogen dioxide combines with oxygen to form Nitrogen dioxide at about 50 °celsius .
