if the hard water contains calcium and Magnesium Bicarbonate the hardness of water can be removed

hardness can be removed by the addition of washing soda to water

Many processes are used to remove permanent hardness of water.

1. Ion exchange soften system- replacement of calcium and magnesium by sodium ions.

2. phosphate dosing- small amount of phosphate is added to inhibit deposition of carbonate.

3. deionization- chemically removing both Anions and Cations leaving the water deionized.
