It is called transpirational pull .
During the process of transpiration the plants lose a lot of water from their body . So the concentration of water molecules become less in the plants . And there is plenty of water in the ground . Therefore to equalize the concentration of water molecules the water from ground is absorbed by the roots. In this way the water comes inside the root . A suction force is developed in the plant body which pulls the water upwards and is called transpirational pull .
