HERE'S YOUR ANSWER
_________________________
Consider Sound waves which require a medium.to propagate. These waves travel in the medium through the vibrations of the particles of the medium about their mean positions, so they are called Elastic or Mechanical Waves.
Properties of medium which are essential for the propagation of a mechanical wave through it are :
(a) ELASTICITY :- For the particles to return to their mean positions after beingh disturbed, the meadium must possess Elasticity.
(b) INERTIA :- The medium must possess the Inertia or mass so that the particles can store Kinetic Energy.
(c) MINIMUM FRICTION :- The medium should have minimum frictional force between it's particles so that they can continue oscillating for a sufficiently long time.
