Commutative Property under addition :

If a , b Z ,

a + b = b + a

Here , a = 2 , b = -4 ,

LHS = 2 + ( - 4 ) = -2

RHS = (-4) + 2 = -2

Therefore.,

2 + ( - 4 ) = ( - 4 ) + 2
