Here is my two cents. A gas that can be filled inside a pneumatic tyre should have the following characteristics
The coefficient of thermal expansion should be low. This is because when tyres roll they get heated up and transfer this heat to the medium contained by the tyre causing it to expand. This inturn causes additional stresses on the tyre. Nitrogen expands lesser than air so nitrogen is used in racing cars.Should have no or minimum moisture content since moisture rusts rims of tubeless tyres. Moisture should be removed from the gas medium. This naturally happens when you compress gases as the dew point temperature of moisture present in gases increases with pressure and most of the water contained in gases will condense out during compression. Professional racing teams will runs compressed nitrogen through air driers (desiccant) to remove any remaining moisture.oxidation - different experts have different opinions on the subject of oxidation. Air contains 21% oxygen by volume so this oxygen is thought of as a contributing factor to the deterioration of rubber and the metal reinforcement belts embedded inside the tyres over time. But some experts disagree.permeation - even though we think of rubber tyre as a continuous medium there are microscopic holes (porosity) in the tyres through which gases can escape overtime. nitrogen atoms are larger than oxygen atoms so filling your tyre with nitrogen will slow down tyre deflation with time.cost and universal availability.chemically inert and non toxic (stuff like ethylene glycol in your coolant is poisonous).non flammability during storage and use.
Considering all these points air serves as a cheap and near ideal medium to fill pneumatic tyres but nitrogen surpasses air as a better alternative but with added cost.
p.s. I am not advocating that everyone use nitrogen for filling up their tyres. It is my personal observation that deflation of tyres is two to three times longer with 96–97% nitrogen than with regular air. My vehicle’s tyres also last a little bit longer with nitrogen filling.

nitrogen is use to fill the tyres.
to minimize the heat on tyre ,
contraction and expansion also....
