EUGLENA is the Protist that exhibits characters of both plants and animals.

PLANT-LIKE CHARACTERS OF EUGLENA-

  • They are AUTOTROPHIC in nature which means they can produce their own food and hence are also called PRODUCERS
  • They possess green color pigment called CHOLOPHYLL, which is only present in plant cells.

ANIMAL-LIKE CHARACTERS OF EUGLENA-

  • They are HETEROTROPHIC which means in case of critical situation they can feed on other organisms for their survival and thus they are also called CONSUMERS.
  • They lack CELL WALL whisch is an important feature of plant cell and thus they are SINGLE LAYER PROTECTION around their cell periphery.
  • They posses FLAGELLA for movement.
