EUGLENA is the Protist that exhibits characters of both plants and animals.
PLANT-LIKE CHARACTERS OF EUGLENA-
- They are AUTOTROPHIC in nature which means they can produce their own food and hence are also called PRODUCERS
- They possess green color pigment called CHOLOPHYLL, which is only present in plant cells.
ANIMAL-LIKE CHARACTERS OF EUGLENA-
- They are HETEROTROPHIC which means in case of critical situation they can feed on other organisms for their survival and thus they are also called CONSUMERS.
- They lack CELL WALL whisch is an important feature of plant cell and thus they are SINGLE LAYER PROTECTION around their cell periphery.
- They posses FLAGELLA for movement.
