Which pupil(s) appear to have a misconception?
Pupil 1 - If rounding to the nearest 100. the number will be rounded by looking at the digit in
the hundreds place
Pupil 2 - I find the respective multiples that the number lies between and use number lines to
round numbers. If the number is less than the mid-point, round down, if it is the mid-point or
more, round up.
Pupil 3 - If the question says to round to the nearest 1.000. I would look at the number that is
in the 100s place and check if the number is less than 500. If it less than 500, I would round
down. If it is greater than or equal to 500. I would round it up
Pupil 4 - If the question says to round to the nearest 10. I would look at the ones and if it is
less than 5, I take away one from the tens place. If the digit in the ones place is greater than 5
I round up by adding one to the tens place
