Adjustment/compromise is an essential thing to hold a family together. A family is like a System where every family member plays a role like subsystems. if any subsystem does anything wrong and other subsystems can not adjust according to him, the whole system collapse.
If a family member wants to show his/her expressions (anger/joy/useless talk), the entire family must show their expression that it is important (Adjustment) for us.
if a family member becomes selfish, family try to give their portion (Adjustment) and try to realize him that you are valuable for us but you are doing wrong.
It is very long list to explain the basics of adjustment but you can understand with an example of beautiful building which has some bricks under the ground, some hidden iron rods but beautiful paint outside which wants maintenance regularly because it face nature odds.
