By cross multiplication :

 \:  \:  \:  \:  \frac{5}{4}   \: and \frac{7}{6}  \\  =( 5 \times 6)and(4  \times 7) \\  = 30 \: and \: 28

Clearly, 30 > 28 \\ \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   =  >  \frac{5}{4}  >  \frac{7}{6}

Hence,5:4 is greater.
