Food storage

Explanation:

  • Some times roots become modified to store food, they become fleshy due to absorption of food material.
  • Example can be given when taproots of carrot and turnip get swollen to store food.
  • According to their shapes , they are of following types , conical roots ( broad at base and conical at apex) , fusiform roots,( swollen in middle and tapering at the apex),  napiform roots( spherical at base and taper towards apex) and tuberous roots (thick and fleshy ).
  • Examples of conical roots are carrot, fusiform - radish, napiform- turnip, tuberous - sweet potato.
