Many regions of India practice shifting cultivation, some of which are as follows - Jhum in north-eastern India, Deepa in Bastar district of Madhya Pradesh, Batra in south-eastern Rajasthan, Kumari in the hilly regions of Kerala in the Western Ghats, Dahiyaar and Vevar in Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh, Erka and Zara in southern states, Podu in Andhra Pradesh and Vinga, Dhavi and Kaman in Orissa.
Shifting cultivation is a type of agriculture or a system of cultivation in which a part of the field is cleared of its vegetation and agriculture is done on it for a few years.
Then, it is left out for a new field until its fertility is again restored naturally.
