He ruled from 1266 to 1286. Earlier, he had been a noble in the court of Iltutmish and Nasir-ud-din Mahmud. After becoming the ruler he wanted that the people should show due respect to the Sultan. So he introduced the Persian customs of salutation, known as sijdah and paibos or zaminbos
