Importance of social identity in modern society:

Generally, an identity in a society depends on the gender, outlooks, ideas and beliefs shared by a person. The identity has always helped people in standing unique from a group of people. But it has also created differences and bitterness in different groups of people.  

The social identity helps a person to interact with the other group of persons in society. Though social identity has become important for interaction, it is also factual that the self is different from the identity that they exhibit.
