The blood groups, also are known as ABO types were discovered by an Austrian immunologist, biologist and physician Karl Landsteiner in 1901. He received a Nobel Prize for the same in 1930 in the field of Physiology or Medicine.
He found that blood serum from different persons would clump together when mixed in test tubes. It was the first proof that blood variations are there in humans before this it was believed that everyone had the same type of blood.
