When I was in elementary school, my parents told me that I should join a sport. After talking about my options, I ended up signing up for soccer. At first, I didn’t really like it. I had never played before, so I didn’t know all of the rules, and I would get frustrated when my team lossed or I missed a goal. As I continued to practice and work at it, I got better and realized that I actually enjoyed playing. With the qualities that I’ve developed from playing soccer and the friendships I’ve made, I know there are many benefits to joining a team.

A sports expert for the Department of Education and Communities stated that “team sports help children and adolescents develop socially.” They can learn leadership skills, teamwork, respect, and self-discipline. In order to become a better soccer player, I have learned the importance of spending lots of time practicing and working as a team. Because you are only as good as your weakest link on the field, you need to work together to win.
