Which set/ number of chromosome is called sex chromosome ? How is it responsible for determination of the sex of a baby ?
Answers
Answer:
23.
A female body has a perfect set of XX chromosomes in her female gametes called ovum while a male has both X and Y chromosomes in his male gametes called sperms. Actually half the sperms in male body has X chromosome while the other half has Y chromosomes. When a male sperm containing X chromosomes fertilises an ovum(egg), then the baby born will have a set of XX chromosomes and the baby born will be a girl(or female).
On the other hand, when a male sperm containing Y chromosome fertilises an egg(ovum) ,then the baby born will have a set of XY chromosomes and the baby born will be a boy(or male).

Answer:
●In humans, each cell normally contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46. Twenty-two of these pairs, called autosomes, look the same in both males and females. The 23rd pair, the sex chromosomes, differ between males and females.
●Men determine the sex of a baby depending on whether their sperm is carrying an X or Y chromosome. An X chromosome combines with the mother's X chromosome to make a baby girl (XX) and a Y chromosome will combine with the mother's to make a boy (XY).
