The landless and economically deprived sections of society are vulnerable to food insecurity in India. They included disadvantaged classes, people in economically backward states with high incidence of poverty, tribal areas and regions vulnerable to natural disasters. The states with highest incidence of food insecurity are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarsh and Madhya Pradesh.
