The mountail soil is a highly leached soil which is acidic in nature and is poorly fertile too. its is found in Jammu and Kashmir,UP, West Bengal in Himalyas submontane tracts.It is also found in the himalyas , north eastern hills and other mountains...

The soil is loamy and silty in valley sides and coarse-grained in the upper slopes. The soil is acidic with low humus content in the snow-covered areas. It is fertile in the lower parts of the valleys.
