In silver plating, the object to be plated(e.g., a spoon) is made from the cathode of an electrolytic cell. The anode is a bar of silver metal, and the electrolyte (the liquid in between the electrodes) is a solution of silvercyanide, AgCN, in water.

to give the object shine...byt the scientific reason behind this is that the silver objects is less reactive. though it rracts with the atmospheric h2s. but this process is kind of slow....
