The Yak farmers living in harsh climatic conditions used to face regular losses due to deaths of the animal. India has around 58,000 yaks, mainly in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh. Only in 2019, 500 yaks had died in Sikkim due to heavy snowfall.
