Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the Soura Jalanidhi scheme in 2018 .

The scheme aimed to increase use of solar energy by providing 5,000 solar pumps for helping farmers in irrigating their land at a subsidy of 90 per cent to irrigate 2,500 acres of land. During the first phase, the scheme will provide benefit to farmers where electricity is not available for operating pump sets.
