Maharashtra has the maximum Co-operatives ration shops.

According to the data collected from the Minister of State in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Maharashtra has 50555 fair price rations shops.

Basically, Public Distribution System is operated by state government and central government, and the central government is doing the procurement, transportation and allocation of the food grains.

The distribution is done by the respective state government only.
