The state of matter which expands on heating is the gaseous state.

  • The molecules of gaseous states have large intermolecular spaces between them.
  • The molecules of the gaseous state are very loosely packed.
  • The greater is the intermolecular spaces in the molecules, the greater is the expansion of the molecule.
  • The particles move freely when heat is provided to the molecule due to the increase in kinetic energy which is responsible for expansion in gases.
  • The Kinetic energy of a molecule increases with an increase in temperature.

Hence, Gases expands maximum on heating.
