The post-independence period witnessed the series of the political movement for creation of states on linguistic basis. However, the State Reorganization Act of 1956 reformed the territories and organized them on linguistic lines. October 1, 1953, State Reorganization Act helped in creating the first State of India on the linguistic basis, which was known as Andhra State, a state for Telugu speakers. Later Andhra state was renamed as Andhra Pradesh.
