They believed in the value of hard work, as they said "Tho' much is taken, much abides" & "strenght...Moved earth and heaven". Here, "Abides" is a word that means "remains." Victorians were not heroic by nature, but they admired heroism and revered brave men and women. They did not believe that fate controlled their destiny. They believed that faith, will and courage would overcome adversity. They were old hence didn't have time to go to new places.
