In the fresh elections held in 1792, all men of 21 years and above including the poor were granted the right to vote.This newly elected assembly after elections came to be known as the National Convention.
On 21 September, 1792 it declared France as a Republic by abolishing Constitutional Monarchy.It abolished the rights of the nobility to demand taxes, tithes and labour from the peasants working on their family lands.It wiped out the feudal system and the obligations of taxes. Even land owned by the Church had been taken away.
