The Palk Strait is 52 to 83 km wide strait between Tamilnadu state of India and Mannar district of  Srilanka which is an Island nation.

It connects the Palk Bay form southwest and Bay of Bengal in the northeast.

The Palk Strait is named after the governor Robert Palk of Madras during the Company Raj.
