Given : Wholesaler bought cashews at four time price than peanuts for per kg.  Wholesaler sold 10 kg peanuts at 105 profit and 15 kg cashews at 20% profit to shopkeeper.

Shopkeeper lost 3 kg peanuts and 4 kg cashews in transit.

Shopkeeper then mixed remaining and sold at rs 166 per kg and made 20 % profit

To find : Price of cashew per kg at which wholesaler bought .

Solution:

Let say wholesaler bought cashew for  = 4x rs per kg

and peanuts for  = x  rs per kg

10 kg peanuts sold at 10 % profits = 10x + (10/100)10x = 11x  rs

15 kg cashews sold at 20 % profits = 15(4x) + (20/100) 15(4x)  = 72x  rs

Cost price for shopkeeper  = 11x + 72x  = 83x  Rs

20% profit = (20/100)83x = 16.6x rs

Selling Price = 83x + 16.6x = 99.6x Rs

Total Qty = 10 + 15 = 25 kg

Lost in transit = 3 + 4 = 7 kg

Quantity available for sell = 25 - 7 = 18 kg

price per kg = 166 rs

Selling Price = 166 * 18  Rs

Equate selling price

99.6x  = 166 * 18

=> x = 30

4x = 120

Hence wholesaler bought cashew for  = 120 rs per kg
