As it flourished under Guptas every subject of learning importance were taught in Nalanda.

Curriculum at Nalanda

According to Tibetian traditions, there were four doxographies or commentaries on the buddhist philosophies taught at Nalanda.

Sarvastivada Vaibhasika (early orthodox kashmiri buddhist tradition)
Sarvastivada

SautrantikaMadhayamaka, the Mahayana philosophy of NagarjunaChittamatra, the Mahayana philosophy of Asanga and Vasubandhu

Apart from these, Nalanda also taught formalized Vedic learning including Vedic texts, ritual, Samkhya and the Vedangas. It also taught linguistics, reasoning, medicine, law, astronomy and city-planning.

But the most attractive subjects were the Buddhist philosophies which led so many foreigners to travel and explore India.
