Starch is broken down into simpler sugars by amylase.

  • We ingest most carbohydrates in food in the form of starch. Starch is a polymer made of two chains of glucose molecules.
  • Starch is digested primarily in the mouth and the small intestine. The salivary amylase of the mouth and pancreatic amylase secreted into the small intestine by the pancreas break the strach into simple molecules of glucose.
  • Now the glucose can easily be absorbed by the body.
