Which substance gives colour to the roots of leguminous plants and give its function also?

Leghaemoglobin is the pigment that gives color (pigmentation) to the roots of leguminous plants .

It acts as Oxygen scavenger to avoid the oxygen coming in contact with the Nitrogenase enzyme which is highly sensitive to oxygen.
