The process in which an acid combines with a base to produce Salt and water is known as NEUTRALIZATION.
Acid+Base ➡ Salt and water
Example:
Hcl(Hydrochloric acid)+NaOH(Sodium hydroxide) ➡NaCl(sodium chloride)+H2O(water)
The reason why neutralization happens is that the acid and base are totally opposite to each other so when they are combined......They combat or nullify the effect of each other!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
✔The salt produced in Neutralization can also be of three types.....
•Acidic salts: Formed by the combination of a strong acid and a weak base.
•Basic salts: Formed by the combination of a weak acid and a strong base...
•Neutral Salts: Formed by the combination of equally powerful acid and base...
✔The most common example of neutralization is the formation of common Salt.
✔Common Salt(sodium chloride) is formed by the reaction of Hydrochloric acid and Sodium Hydroxide....
✔ Neutralization is an Exothermic reaction; which means that it releases heat....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the process of Neutralization if the salts of:
•Hydrochloric acid are called chlorides
•Sulphuric acid are called sulphates
•Nitric acid are called Nitrates
•Carbonic acid are called carbonates
•Acetic acid are called acetates and so on.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The examples of neutralization in everyday life are.....
1. Indigestion: Our stomach contains Hydrochloric acid! Sometimes due to overeating it is produced in a unnecessary amount.....To cure that we use a weak base because strong bases are gonna give you even more trouble
So weak bases like Milk of magnesia are used to cure Indigestion.
2. Ant's sting: If an ant stings a person, then rubbing a mild base like Baking soda solution on the stung area of the skin give relief. This is because the ant sting contains formic acid...
3. Soil treatment: When the soil is too acidic, it is treated with bases such as quicklime (calcium oxide) or slaked lime(calcium hydroxide).
if the soil is too basic then decaying organic matter is added to it.
