This real estate fraud took place in the Georgia State of the United States of America. In 1795 the legislators of Georgia were bribed by four land companies called The Georgia Company, The New Tennessee Company, The Upper Mississippi Company and The Georgia -Mississippi Company, to support a deal in which these companies could buy a large portion of land, then part of Georgia State and currently the state of Mississippi and Alabama, for an amount far less than then prevailing market value. An area of almost 40,000,000 acres was sold for a price of $500,000 to these companies.
However soon the public knew about this Yazoo act and began to protest against the legislatures. As a result, a government change took place and attempts were made to repeal the land sale.
